DECKING FAQ’S
Timber is the traditional choice and offers a natural appearance. It requires periodic oiling or staining to maintain its finish. Composite decking is made from wood fibre and recycled plastic. It requires very little maintenance, does not splinter, and holds its appearance well over time. It carries a higher upfront cost but is increasingly popular for that reason.
In most cases, decking under 30cm in height and covering less than 50% of the garden does not need planning permission. Raised or roof decking may require consent. We will flag anything relevant during the consultation.
Well-maintained hardwood or composite decking can last 20 to 30 years. Softwood decks typically last 10 to 15 years with regular treatment. The sub-frame and fixings are just as important as the boards themselves, which is why we do not cut corners on the structural build.
Yes. We can incorporate deck lights, post cap lights, and low-voltage step lighting into any new decking project. Lighting is best planned at the design stage so cables are routed cleanly before the boards go down.
